Stillwater Artist Exhibits Watercolor Prints at OSU Foundation Gallery

Phyllis Lambert’s work to be showcased in the Malinda Berry Fischer Gallery until Jan. 23

Stillwater artist Phyllis Lambert will showcase more than 25 watercolor prints in the OSU Foundation’s gallery now until Jan. 23.

The opening reception for Lambert’s exhibit, “Watercolor Memories,” is Nov. 7 from 5:30 - 7 p.m. in the Malinda Berry Fischer Gallery.  The reception is free and open to the public.

“It’s hard to define this exhibit because it is a collection of various paintings that I’ve made throughout my life,” Lambert said.

Although Lambert has been painting for more than 20 years, “Watercolor Memories” will be her first exhibit. She moved to Stillwater in 1972 and nearly 10 years later, her passion for watercolor was spurred by a Stillwater Art Guild workshop with Tulsa artist Hugh Walkinshaw.

“At the time, I didn’t even own watercolors,” Lambert said. “I went and really enjoyed what I was learning, so I decided to start taking regular classes.”

Art classes, photographs and vacations were the inspiration behind Lambert’s portfolio, which will be showcased at the exhibit.

“I wanted to name the show ‘Watercolor Memories’ because as my husband, David, and I sat down to look at my work, it brought back so many wonderful memories and experiences,” Lambert said.

For Lambert, art is personal, and she plans to give her original paintings to her six children and ten grandchildren.

All of the prints featured in Lambert’s exhibit will be available for purchase, with 20 percent of the proceeds benefitting Friends of the OSU Library and the Clarence Lambert Scholarship Fund.

“I am excited for the show and so happy to have this opportunity to show my paintings,” Lambert said. “I hope others enjoy it.”

Named in honor of the Foundation’s former board chairman, the Malinda Berry Fischer Gallery showcases Oklahoma and OSU artists.  The gallery serves to strengthen the connection between Oklahoma State University and the OSU Foundation.  The gallery is open Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The Oklahoma State University Foundation serves as the private fundraising organization for OSU, as designated by the OSU Regents. Its mission is to unite donor and university passions and priorities to achieve excellence.
